Drawing A Blank…

Well I guess you could say I have been taking some unplanned time off from the blog here to put some things in order.  I’ve been working on my taxes, trying to de-stress, thinking about what I really want for my kids, for my family, for myself. Something strange kind of happened during all of this and I know that it happens to everyone…but this is the first time it has really happened to me. I have drawn a blank creatively. At least I seem to be having more trouble than usual that is. I want to create every day, but then I place myself in front of my desk and look at everything and suddenly all I can think about is all of the other problems I have going on or whatever is stressing me out at the moment and my desire to create seems to float away…

I don’t like it! I don’t like it one little bit! lol Making art is my creative outlet…my go to thing to make me feel better … my HAPPY PLACE.

It’s hard when you can’t visit your happy place, especially when you need it to keep you sane. :) Well this week I finally made myself go there and it was, to quote a dear sweet friend, “Lovely”.

nightout{Night Out}

I made this layout. This is a shot the I snapped of my friend Rebecca and I while we were at CHA in January.

Here are a couple of close up shots

I used STAEDTLER watercolor pencils to color the Studio Calico Wood Veneer butterflies. Then I used a wet paintbrush to blend them and even brushed a little of the muted watercolor onto the patterned paper. I used my fingers to distress and pull up some of the paper.  I traced the edges of the butterflies with a dark grey STAEDTLER Triplus Fineliner pen!

All the patterned papers are from Studio Calico and the cool purple crackled cardstock is from Core’dinations new Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Shattered Collection!

I’ve also started uploading some videos to Vine! I only have three up so far, but they are only 6 seconds in length, so it’s great because you watch them quickly, hopefully gain some inspiration, and then get on with other things. You can find me under my name (April Derrick) if you want to follow me!

Creatively Yours,

    I know exactly how that is… I often hit that creative wall and it sucks!
    It usually doesn’t last long which is a good thing. I adore your creativity though… so inspiring the way you work the inks and paints :) Fun page by the way!

    Hi April –

    I’ve followed your blog for a while – we used to chat on Scrap Friends a while back.

    I hope you don’t mind me asking this – your posts here, and some of your pins on Pinterest have been kind of sad sounding, like you’re re-thinking your life, people letting you down, not feeling the same about people in your life, etc.

    Are you ok? Is everything ok with hubby and kids?

    Really not trying to be nosy, but your change in pins and postings really caught my attention and I wanted to make sure all was well. Feel free to email me if you feel more comfortable than responding here.

    ~MARIA~
