* I actually made this a few months ago at a crop and I kept thinking I would add something to it later, but every time I grabbed it I put it back down thinking nothing really went with it…and I kind of liked it plain. I looked at it again yesterday and decided it was done! Then I kind of smiled and put it on and was happy. I originally bought this leather cuff at Wal-mart on clearance for $3. I bought it with the intention of altering it and I have little tutorial to share with you of how I colored it.
{Supplies Used For Project}:
- STAEDTLER Pastel Chalks
- Core’dinations Sand it Gadget
- Ranger/Claudine Hellmuth Gesso & Glossy Medium
* Leather Cuff Bracelet from Wal-mart
- Other Tools: Non-Stick Craft Mat, Paintbrush, Waterbucket
* Step 1: Pick out a couple of your favorite chalk colors
* Step 2: Put a glob of gesso on your craft mat. Then rub your chalk stick up against the sand it gadget (or a sanding block or paper) and let the chalk dust particles fall on top of the glob o’ gesso!
* Step 3: Add more chalk colors if you like and admire how pretty the dust looks just sitting there on the gesso. I know…I’m a little strange I guess…
* Step 4: Mix all the goodness up!
* Here’s a shot of what the bracelet looked like before I painted it.
* Step 5: Use a paintbrush to paint the top of the bracelet.
* I did not paint the underside, I thought it looked cool with the dark leather still peaking out from underneath.
* Step 6: Now grate some chalk right over the bracelet while it’s still wet!
* I grated a couple of colors over mine
* Step 7: To seal everything, paint on a good coat of glossy medium!
* It’s a little hard to see in the picture, but the extra chalk particles I dropped onto the bracelet after I painted it really add a cool effect…It looks speckled!
* Yes, it did crack a little when I bent it the first time, but I actually think it adds to the distressed feel of it and now I have my own unique cuff bracelet to wear!
Creatively yours,
April
